Situated along the shore of lake Maggiore and within a few kilometres from Italy, there are wonderful beaches and natural parks nearby. From mid March to mid October, the climate is mostly subtropical and friendly so life is often conducted in the open air. The town’s distinctive charming atmosphere, authentic appearance and car-free promenade attract numerous national and international visitors yearly. Although it is a small place, it holds a great deal of entertainment and outdoor activities for every taste (see entertainment). In particular, whilst strolling along the lake, you can choose one of the many beautiful terraced cafés and restaurants to take a rest, dine or have a drink, fronted by the lake and magnificent views stretched around the surrounding palmy, green mountains. Ascona -once known- is one of the most sought-after holiday destinations.

There is a wide range of accommodation facilities within Ascona. They vary between hotels to a large number of pensions and holiday apartments. In total, there are 48 hotels, four of which are 5-stars and regarded among the best in Switzerland. Additionally, nearby there is a lovely camping site directly situated on the lake with a wonderful park and swimming facilities.

Ascona merges admirably with subtropical flora, which is encouraged by the Mediterranean climate and the, statistically, 300 sunny days during the
